Bicycle tours - Poland 2011
Poland and Belarus
In the wood of the bisons; guided tour
(Code BWR, 7 days, 6 nights)
Day one
The Holy Mount of Grabarka
Individual arrival to Warsaw, meeting with the our guide at 12:00 a.m. on Warszawa Centralna train station. Bus transfer to Białowieża. On the road, a visit to the Holy Mount of Grabarka is scheduled. The Mount consists of an Orthodox monastery and pilgrimage centre. After checking-in in your hotel – fine regional cuisine, including pierogis and mushroom soup – a short bicycle trip, to familiarize yourselves with the village and the bicycle equipment (about 10-12 km).
Day two
Watchtower in Kosy Most, in the Narewka Valley
Right after breakfast we explore the village and admire the orthodox church, founded by Tzar Alexander the Third. Then we ride further, pass small forest villages and observe the authentic primordial forest, present nowhere else in Europe. We rest in the Kosy Most watchtower, which provides us with a beautiful view of the reed and willow covered Narewka Valley. Dinner and accommodation as on day one. By bicycle – about 45 km.
Day three
In Europe’s most strict natural reserve
Today we have scheduled a visit to the Forest Museum with a 3 hour long guided trip to the core of the Białowieski National Park. The world-famous reserve exists for more than 70 years. It is present on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Picturesque landscape and virginal nature are to be found at every turn here. At the end of the day we offer a movie show about the Forest’s flora and fauna. Accommodation as on day two, on foot about 6 km, by bike about 20 km.
Day four
Canoeing and visiting the beavers
The road to Narewka takes us through the vastness of wood. Our today’s destination is the river of the same name, along which you shall paddle for 2,5 hours. The river is shallow, therefore the activity requires no additional skills. In the end, after a short trip you reach a foresters hut, who will tell you about his life, work and the realm of beavers, offering coffee and pastry. At the end of the day, our bus will take you back to Białowieża. Accommodation as on day three, by bike – about 30 km, by canoe – about 2,5h, on foot – about 3 km.
Day five
Belarus – so close and yet so far*
Right after breakfast we ride to the Belorussian border (Białowieża/Piererow, 3 km from the hotel). Since the outpost serves only pedestrians and cyclists, we should take all what we need for spending 24 hours in Belarus to our bicycle purse. The rest of our belongings will await us in our hotel in Białowieża.
The Belorussian part of the Forest is maintained very well, its nature is beautiful and there is a strong chance of encountering many different animal species on the road. The people we will encounter are friendly and will greet us with „Dobry dien“ – „Good day“. Thanks to the excellent, asphalt roads in this part of the forest, we reach Kamyenyuki (20 km away) without any problems. Along the way, we shall be accompanied by a Belarussian ranger, who is there to give additional information about the Forest and the local people.
In the afternoon we reach Kamyenyuki, where an interesting natural museum is located. Accommodation and dinner in the hotel. In the evening, we can take a walk in the village, quite exotic to us.
By bicycle about 48 km, mainly asphalt roads.
Day six
Belarus – visit to Dyed Moroz, the Belarussian Santa Claus. Return to Białowieża
Right after breakfast we ride through the Belorussian villages and further to the forest, to reach the home of Dyed Moroz at noon. It’s an interesting tourist attraction built in the middle of the Forest. Here we try real Belorussian blini’s (pancakes) for lunch. In the afternoon we ride to the border in Piererow/Białowieża and by 7 p.m. we are in Poland. In the evening a bonfire feast with accordion music is scheduled. Accommodation as on days 1-4.
By bike – about 58 km, mostly asphalt roads.
